New Neuro Rehabilitation Service Launched in Clondalkin
I was very pleased to mark the launch of the new Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team at Clondalkin Primary Care Centre on 22 June, bringing vital specialist rehabilitation services closer to people across Dublin Mid West.
This new service will support adults recovering from conditions such as stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, as well as those living with other neurological conditions.
The Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team is made up of specialist healthcare professionals who work together to provide personalised care for people with complex needs. Services can be delivered in local clinics, in patients’ homes, through group programmes and by tele rehabilitation, ensuring care is more accessible and available closer to where people live.
Community based rehabilitation plays a crucial role in helping people recover, regain independence and return to their daily routines. By providing specialist support locally, this service will help ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.
The team was established under the National Neuro Rehabilitation Strategy, which aims to improve access to specialist rehabilitation services across the country. Since becoming operational in December 2025, the Dublin and Midlands team has received more than 120 referrals, highlighting the need for and value of this service.
I am particularly pleased that this service is based in Clondalkin. It reflects our commitment to strengthening healthcare provision in Dublin Mid West and ensuring local communities can access high quality care closer to home.
I want to thank everyone involved in establishing this important service, which will make a real difference to people and families across the region.
